NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation

Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training — is the NRA’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers.

The purpose of this course is to introduce basic pistol handling and safety to people who have had no experience with pistol shooting. Taught in a comfortable environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and dispel any preconceived anxieties they may have about guns. The class will provide students with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a modern firearm safely. The class will introduce pistol safety, components and operation, an introduction to ammunition and the fundamentals of shooting skills. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. A total of 3.5 hours will be split between 2 hour lecture, demonstrations, and practice in the classroom and 1.5 hours shooting on the range. Because the range is under the jurisdiction of the San Mateo Sheriff’s Department, live fire instruction is limited to the hours of 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You will use only the ammunition and .22 caliber pistols provided by the instructors.

The course fees are $85.00 per person, payable online by credit card (via Amazon Instant Pay) or by check or money order, no later than two weeks prior to the scheduled date of the course.
