Pacific Rod & Gun Club Update

Pacific Rod and Gun Club

Dear PRGC Member:

As you may remember, several PRGC Directors have been working diligently on getting trap and skeet shooting back to Lake Merced.

However, Rec & Park is pushing to place a for-profit user on the site who has no plans to allow Trap, Skeet, or a desperately needed new rowing facility.

In order to take a fresh look and new approach, several members and former leaders of the PRGC formed the Lake Merced Outdoor Center (LMOC): a mixed-use, family recreation facility that will maintain the historic trap and skeet shooting activities on site at a reduced level. Designed by world renowned landscape architect, Hart Howerton, amenities of the Lake Merced Outdoor Center will include a new boathouse, restaurant space, gardening program, and numerous other entertainment and educational venues.

The LMOC concept can be found here:

In addition, the Lake Merced Outdoor Center will be 100% non-profit, which will allow it to be much more sustainable for future generations than the proposed for-profit entity. Coalition partners involved in the development of the Lake Merced Outdoor Center include:

  • California Waterfowl Association
  • Pacific Rod & Gun Club
  • Saint Ignatius College Preparatory Rowing
  • Pacific Rowing Club
  • UCSF Master Gardeners
  • Stag Dining Group

In addition, thanks to the hard work of PRGC leadership, there is currently a settlement from past PRGC insurance companies that will substantially help pay back expenses resulting from the SFPUC’s environmental cleanup of the site. This is a major contribution, and could have not been accomplished without the full cooperation and good faith of PRGC leaders.

Please let your voice be heard by OPPOSING the current proposal from the for-profit entity Lake Merced West, LLC with the email form below. Feel free to write in your own comments, but please be respectful. Help trap and skeet shooting return to Lake Merced as it had been for more than 80 years!

There are also two meetings coming up at City Hall that we highly encourage supporters of LMOC to attend:

-Thursday, October 6, 2pm, room 416
-Thursday, October 20, 10am, room 416

San Francisco City Hall
